Return of Berkeley-Attendants
We are glad to announce that the Yahoo email group formerly
called "Berkeley Attendants" is finally back in operation. We
are writing to describe the group, what it does, and to invite you to
subscribe.
The original resource was created by Scott Leubking, and several
other community members a number of years ago to provide an online way for
individuals wanting to do attendant work to advertise their abilities and
interests to people with disabilities who subscribe to the Yahoo group. The
resource was created as part of a larger attendant recruitment project
called PACT, the Personal Assistance Crisis Team.
After Scott passed away, we lost access to the resource files for the group.
Scott's friend Neil Jacobson recruited Alex Tabony of the Computer
Technologies Program to work with us to re-create the technical guts of the
list-serve. We are now back in business!
The resource is now called "Scott's Attendant List" as a memorial to Scott.
We encourage you to go
to the site http://scottsattendantlist.com/ to look at the pages and the
form potential attendants are asked to fill out. Those of you familiar with
the old list will notice the pages are very similar to what previously
existed. If you wish to subscribe to the list, please go to
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/scottsattendantlist/
or send a blank email to scottsattendantlist-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .
Although PACT no longer exists, we will be contacting places where
people look for work to tell folks of the existence of this resource and to
ask that they post permanent notices. (***Please note, however, that we will not be
pre-screening potential attendants and that reference checking, etc. will be
the responsibility of the person making contact.) If other members of the
community have any questions or are interested in helping in some way,
please let us know.
We hope you find this resource helpful. Our heartfelt thanks go to Neil and
Alex for their help and to CIL Berkeley for their support.
